The Seereer Resource Centre requires a Seereer-Siin Translator. 

Duties

  1. Translate and transcribe our Website from French or English to Seereer-Siin up to an accurate and professional standard, and to the stipulated deadline.

  3. To accurately translate and transcribe our audio and video files from Wolof/Seereer to Seereer-Siin.

  1. You must be fluent in Seereer-Siin and be able to write it up to an advance or professional standard, free from spelling or grammatical errors.
  2. You must be accurate with good attention to detail.
  3. You must be able to work to strict deadlines.
  4. You must exercise your professional judgment in order to assist with interpretation especially when translating certain words or phrases not found in Seereer-Siin. Therefore, fluency in the Seereer-Siin language is vital.
  5. Although no translation or transcription experience is necessary, you must possess a University Degree and/or a Masters Degree. Those studying for their Masters but have attained a University Degree are also encouraged to apply. Please do not apply if you are still studying for your Degree. We also welcome applications from scholars and/or authors who have not attained a Degree or Masters but have published or authored several books or manuscripts in the Seereer-Siin language and are well respected within their field.
  6. You must be fluent in English or French, and in Wolof up to an advance/professional standard.
  7. You must have access to a computer, internet connection, be familiar with Microsoft Office Suit and be able to use email.

Position: Field Researchers
The Seereer Resource Centre requires Field Researchers within Seereer towns and villages in Senegal, the Gambia and Mauritania. As a Field Researcher, you will plan and interview Seereer elders about their family history and genealogy in order to enhance our Genealogical Database. Experience or qualifications are not necessary for this job as we will provide training and furnish you with all the resources (e.g. genealogical sheets, dictaphone or video recorder) you need in order to carry out your genealogical research. 

You will be responsible to:

  1. You will be planning and carrying out the interview, therefore good organisational skills are prerequisite. 
  2. You must be able to read and write in English or French fluently. 
  3. You must be fluent in any of these languages: Seereer-Siin, Saafi-Saafi, Ndut, Sili-Sili (or Palor), Laalaa (or Lehar), Noon or Wolof.
  4. You must have a neat and clear handwriting.
  5. You must be social, have a bubbly personality with the ability to interact with strangers.
  6. You must be patient. Genealogical research is never a rushed job, but a higher degree of patience is prerequisite.
  7. Good listening skills
  8. Good analytical skills
  9. Ability to emphathise with others.
  10. Ability to put people at ease and influence others to talk about themselves.
  11. You must be reliable, resourceful and professional.
  12. Good attention to detail.

  14. Honesty. As you will be handling the SRC's assets. 
  15. Good understanding of who we are, what we do and how your work will contribute towards the achievement of our overal objectives.

  19. You must be living within or near Seereer towns and villages in Senegal, the Gambia or Mauritania. Do not apply if you are not currently living in these countries.

Fees

£30 - £50 per subject/family + travel expenses. Depending on experience.
Position: Article Writers
We are looking for highly educated scholars to help us write articles relating to Seereer religion, history, culture and traditional medicinal practices. Everyday, a large number of our users go through our article bank trying to find articles relating to their area of interest. This is where you come in. You can help us expand our article bank by writing about topics you are interested and qualified in for example: Seereer religion (a ƭat Roog), historyculture and medicine. Every article submitted to us for publishing will go through a rigorous check in-line with our citation guidelines. Please see our publishing policy before registering an interest in this position.

2. You must be knowledgeable in the subject you are writing about.
3. You must have a Master's Degree, currently studying for your Master's or a well respected scholar in the field. Exception is given to those elderly writers who do not have the necessary qualifications but whose knowledge in the field is well known and respected. See our publishing policy.
4. Since you will be publishing academic articles, you must support your claims using our citation policy. See publishing policy.
5. It is your responsiblity to scour the internet and public libraries for reliable and verifiable sources. The Seereer Resource Centre would be willing to assist with our collection of rare books which are not available online. Contact the SRC at info@seereer.com.
6. You must be able to write in English or French up to an advance professional standard. Spelling mistakes and poor grammar are unacceptable. 

Documents will be translated in other languages including Seereer-Siin, Saafi-Saafi, Ndut, Noon, Laalaa and Sili-Sili.
