This image depicts two Seereer Saltigue at the Xoy Ceremony of 2010. The "Saltigue" are the Seereer high priests and priestesses. The Xoy (var : Xooy or Khoy) is an annual divination ceremony that takes place once a year around May-June. It is a major event in the Seereer Calendar. It is the time of the year when the priestly class comes out to divine the future and predict winter months, politics, etc. In this picture, the priest and priestess are wearing the traditional attire of the priesthood.
